Low grown tea in Sri Lanka has its own features. The rich Low grown tea in Sri Lanka has its own features. The rich soil of this region contributes to the speedy growth of the tea bush and produces a long beautiful leaf that turns intensely black on withering. As the weather conditions are mainly warm and dry, the low grown teas in these areas are strong, dark and boast a unique strong flavour with delightful aromas.

Our four tea estates situated in the Southern Agro Climatic Districts of Galle, close to the coastal region and Deniyaya bordering the Singharaja forest reserve (UNESCO World Heritage Site) produce Orthodox teas that consists of leafy, semi-leafy and small leaf grades.

The exclusive character of the soil, which was originally covered by tropical rain forests, of these tea estates, gives strength and character to the cup. The low grown tea selection they offer includes a range of well-twisted leafy varieties such as Orange Pekoes and Broken Orange Pekoes 1s (BOP1) which are the ideal teas to be brewed where the water is hard and containing many minerals. There are also the shotty Pekoes, which are perfect as a sweet drink for relaxation. The range of small leaf varieties such as Broken Orange Pekoes (BOP) and Broken Orange Pekoe Fannings (BOPF), have strong liquors that give out its colour in any form of water.

If you are an enthusiast who appreciates appearance, then the special low grown tea varieties which range from Flowery Broken Orange Pekoes (FBOP) to Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe Fannings Extra Specials (FBOPFEXSP) are for you. The small leaf varieties with a show of tips are ideal for those who like a strong, sweet brew with or without milk.

TMore than sixty years after planting its tea fields, the Kiruwanaganga Estate continues to produce low grown teas that reflect on the quality that has made the Ruhuna Valley the most famous Low Grown tea region in the world. To highlight the flavors of the Ruhuna Valley and its rich, strong low grown teas the tea estate also allocates a small portion of its portfolio to teas grown by small-holders in the region.

Kiruwanaganga Estate is situated in Deniyaya and is the most renowned RPC estate in the Low grown and First factory to be ISO 22000:2005 certified in Sri Lanka, were tea was 1st grown around in the 1959.
